TiviMate IPTV Player: Setup, Premium Features and Tips

How to install and set up TiviMate IPTV Player on Android TV and Fire TV, what TiviMate Premium adds, and the settings that make the TV guide work properly.

By the Best IPTV UK team · Updated · 7 min read

TiviMate IPTV Player is an Android TV app known for its traditional, cable-style TV guide. It's a favourite on Fire TV Sticks, Nvidia Shield and Google TV devices because channel surfing feels like using a satellite box: a full grid of channels and times, quick zapping, and catch-up from the guide where supported.

Like every IPTV player, TiviMate has no channels of its own. You add a playlist from your IPTV provider.

Which devices TiviMate supports

  • Android TV and Google TV televisions and streaming devices
  • Amazon Fire TV Stick, Fire TV Cube and Fire TV smart TVs
  • Android TV boxes, including the Nvidia Shield

It's designed for a TV and remote. It isn't available for iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, Samsung or LG TVs — see our IPTV app comparison for those.

How to install TiviMate

On Android TV and Google TV

  1. Open Google Play on the TV.
  2. Search for TiviMate IPTV Player and install it.

On Fire TV Stick

Check the Amazon Appstore first. If TiviMate isn't listed for your device, it can be installed with the Downloader app using the developer's published download address. Our Firestick installation guide shows how to enable apps from Downloader safely.

Adding your playlist

  1. Open TiviMate and choose Add playlist.
  2. Pick Xtream Codes login if your provider gave you a server, username and password. Choose M3U playlist if you have a single URL.
  3. Enter the details exactly as supplied, then select Next.
  4. TiviMate loads the channels and checks for a TV guide. With Xtream Codes, the guide is normally found automatically. With M3U, you may need to add an EPG (XMLTV) URL.
  5. Give the playlist a name and choose Done.

What TiviMate Premium adds

The free version is enough to test the app with one playlist. TiviMate Premium is an optional paid upgrade from the developer that unlocks features such as:

  • More than one playlist
  • Catch-up playback from the guide, where the provider supports it
  • Favourites and custom channel groups
  • Recording (to device or external storage, where supported)
  • Extra customisation of the guide and player

The developer sets the price and terms, and Premium is bought through a separate companion app. Check the current details before paying.

Settings to change first

SettingWhy
Settings → EPG → update intervalKeeps the guide fresh; refresh manually if it's blank
Settings → EPG → time shiftFixes programme times that are an hour out
Settings → Playlists → hide groupsFewer groups means a faster guide on older sticks
Settings → Playback → decoderSwitch between hardware and software decoding if a channel stutters
Settings → Playback → buffer sizeA larger buffer can smooth brief connection dips

Using catch-up in TiviMate

Channels with catch-up show an archive icon in the guide. Scroll back to a programme that has already aired and select it to play from the start. Catch-up needs Premium and a provider that offers it on that channel. More in our catch-up explainer.

Troubleshooting

  • Guide shows "No information": refresh the EPG; for M3U, add an EPG URL. See fixing the IPTV guide.
  • Buffering: try Ethernet or 5 GHz Wi-Fi and a larger buffer. Our buffering checklist has the full list.
  • Slow on a basic Fire TV Stick: hide unused groups and reduce the guide to fewer days.
